I read an article in today’s online edition of the Orlando Sentinel, and was somewhat puzzled by a quote attributed to Casey Anthony attorney Jose Baez. It read, “We feel our client is innocent,” Baez said after the hearing. “She wants her day in court.”
What caught my attention is the word “feel.” My recollection of defense attorney statements in other cases when addressing their client’s innocence is that they are usually more forceful. For example, “My client is totally innocent of any and all charges. That fact will be made clear when we present our case in court.” Or, “My client is the innocent victim of a prosecutor run amok. These charges will be exposed for the sham that they are as the trial proceeds.”
But “feel” sounds rather weak to me. And what does it mean? I guess time will tell.

I thought the same thing when I read that statement.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing a little while ago when Baez said Casey isn’t the person she is portrayed to be in the press. I was thinking he ought to have gone on to say what a wonderful gal she really is, or how he knows in his heart she is innocent, or something. But he apparently left it at that.

‘We feel our client is innocent’….tells me that Baez is trying to figure it out but is not absolutely sure…so he has a bit of intuition that she is innocent. Apparently Casey hasn’t come right out and told him that she is not guilty…otherwise would he not believe her and proceed with her defense accordingly. If confronted, Baez will probably say he has difficulty in translating the English language since he made it known he is Hispanic. JMO

That really is a very weak statement in my opinion. Sounds like he can’t say for sure whether she is innocent or not.

Scott Peterson was “stone-cold” innocent. Don’t forget even if Casey receives a not guilty verdict; it does not mean “innocent,” just that the prosecutors could not prove their case.
She did not report her child missing for a month and would not have reported it at all, had her mother not come looking for Caylee. For that she is guilty of gross negligence. And for goodness sake, if Mr. Baez wants to make her look professional, put a blazer on her that fits. That Blazer looked like it came from the Thrift shop.

He has only been lawyering for three years-learning to act like a jack azz may not come naturally to him;perhaps he needs a linguist on his team. Not to mention, he hasn’t written a book yet-at least not to my knowledge.
I noticed even when the media was pestering the heck out of him in front of his own office, he invited one of them to step in closer. I assumed it was a young person, perhaps around his daughter’s age.
Whether or not he makes it as an attorney, he’ll be a great teacher!

Do you have a link? I only found the video…he didn’t say that…not exactly.

Jose should take the advise he gives his client-shut up. Only talk to me and when you talk to me tell me the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. If he spent less time in front of the media and more time with that client from hell than I think he could make some headway with -out looking and acting like such a dullered.
It’s been amazing that when he has other people speaking on his behalf, they don’t fair so well either. Who are they and where are they? I never see them I only hear about them.
This case should have been plead out and the sentence should have been life. End of story. She just loves the attention and so does Jose. They deserve each other.

Baez’ PR Todd Black, not his real name but an alias, wont even show his face in public. He only does phone interviews and corresponds via email or fax. Black was in Baez’ employ and then he was not…depending on what suits the purpose at the time.
Baez wants a speedy trial yet files ridiculous motions to create delays, delays, delays… ( he has the right to file motions for discovery) He is going to file a motion on a change of venue and another seeking the DNA paternity test of Jesse Grund. The defense is taking their good old time turning over Caylees remains to the family. The defense didn’t go to the site where the body was discovered when it was released to them….Dr Lee and Baden went out there yesterday… more delays…
Baez wants to stay in the limelight as long as he can…so he got a teaching job…maybe next week he will get to be mayor…

Thanks for the link Dennis! It does say that; perhaps he had said that live and they edited the video.
